Overview:
Arctic Cooling, a company who focuses mainly on CPU and GPU cooling, have expanded their line-up to include other computer-related products, and today we will look at the Arctic M571 Gaming Mouse (wired) which is targeted at professional gamers. With its ultra-high resolution sensitivity adjustments, weight adjustments, and a special button specifically for shooting in-game, this mouse could save you in the heat of battle.

Unboxing, Package Contents, and First Impressions:
The package contents consisted of the following items:
» Arctic M571 Gaming Mouse
» AC Sticker
» Owner’s Manual
» Arctic M571 Gaming Mouse

When I first looked at the mouse, and took a look underneath, it, I was thoroughly confused as to why there was a section for batteries – since this was a wired mouse. After looking at the manual (which is in 10 different languages) I quickly learned that this slot was actually used as a weight adjustment to the mouse for more comfort.

Specifications & Features:
As outlined by the developers:
» Button for DPI adjustment (No light = 800dpi, Green light = 1600dpi, Red light = 2400dpi)
» Slot underneath the mouse to adjust weight (add in batteries to add weight)
» Fire options button – specific button designed to help shoot guns in-game
» Back and Forth thumb buttons when browsing webpages

Configuration & Setup:
There was nothing to setup for the mouse. There are no batteries included for weight adjustment, so you will need to add that in if you wish to do so. Simply plug in the mouse and you will be rolling with it in seconds after Window’s installs the appropriate drivers.

Performance:
After using the mouse for a few hours, I found it over the edge sometimes. I like the idea of the DPI settings, but there wasn’t a perfect setting. 800dpi caused the mouse to be really sluggish onscreen when moving around, and 1600dpi would be much too sensitive and takes some getting used to. I also mentioned the button designed for the shooting in-game which is a neat idea and I think it what makes this product slightly different from most other mice.

I noticed that the mouse would slide a lot to the bottom right corner of my screen, and if you are using Windows 7, you know the bottom right corner has a feature to show your desktop. This would get too much to handle at times when I was browsing the web and reading articles online.

The back and forth buttons are crucial for any type of mouse nowadays, whether it is a gaming or a professional mouse. It was nice to see that this mouse had those buttons included, however, I would have preferred if the buttons were slightly bigger and easier to press.

I feel that if there was a bit more rubber and a little less plastic on the mouse, it would give it a much more solid feel when holding it. I feel like the mouse is fairly cheap and it feels like if too much pressure is applied anywhere on the mouse it would snap the plastic.

Finally, the weight adjustment idea was unique to me as well. It would be nice if they included weights with the mouse, but that is not completely necessary. The mouse feels much too light to me without any weights inside but I know some gamers prefer to have very lightweight equipment when gaming so the adjustment idea caters to more or less everyone on the market. The product also comes with a 2-year limited warranty which is a nice reassurance in case something goes wrong down the road.

Overall:
The Arctic M571 Gaming Mouse (wired) is a fairly decent mouse, but it is definitely not one of the better mice I have tried. The lack of any rubber or non-slip material on the surface of the mouse made it feel cheap and too fragile for my liking. However, with unique features like the fire button and weight adjustment, this product is heading a good direction to change the way gaming mice are sold in the future.
